Crafty Bastards Ahh....it is the event I look forward to each fall. Crafty Bastards is an arts and crafts fair that is held in Adams Morgan each autumn. Every year I'm continually impressed by the level of talent, craftsmanship, and imagination that is demonstrated. It's a great way to support local designers and get behind the green fashion / handmade movements.
This past Saturday I found a few vendors that were so lovely.
This picture is from Peg and Awl a husband and wife team of crafters out of Philadelphia. They are known for their hand bound journals and antique leather jewelry.
This is a necklace made out of individual leather-bound journals. Amazing.
These necklaces will soon be on sale at Anthropologie! They look like something Anthro would carry, don't they?
I also met crafter Katie Stack who makes beautiful leather bracelets.
A friend purchased a black leather band with a smaller brown band on top stitched together with red thread. It goes with almost any outfit and really encompasses his personal style.
More of Katie's pieces can be found at Catherinette Accessories on Etsy.
Finally, I love, love the book-as-a-purse accessory. These pieces are popping up at Kate Spade. But, I love the ones that are handcrafted:
Wouldn't it be wonderful to carry around Great Expectations?
I'm already looking forward to next year's event.
(p.s. Because I'm a cheeseball I've had the song "She's Crafty" by the Beastie Boys in my head ever since attending the event. She's crafty...and she's just my type....)
