The Pursuit of Happiness
(And What it Has to do with Clothes)
The more I learn about fashion, the more I understand that style is a way of engaging with life. I am about to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of my wardrobe consulting business, Closet Caucus, and am launching this blog as an endeavor to share the joy of fashion.
Here's what I know: clothing isn't everything. But, making a decision about what to wear each day that is an experience that we all share. My curiosity and interest centers on how people make those choices. How are people expressing themselves? What is being said? What is being hidden?
Time has a tendency to move far too fast. Then one day we wake up, look in the mirror, and say, "How did I get here?" The "here" has happened by small, incremental decisions that are made daily. And those small decisions add up and become part of who we are - both internally and externally.
So, what would happen if we started making conscious decisions about the little things - like how we dress? Could it be that making those small choices could help shake us awake?
I've been thinking about the Pursuit of Happiness quite a bit lately. I've been thinking about our Forefathers and the incredible vision they had to make it one of our rights. So, how are we exercising that right? How are we pursing happiness right now, right this minute? What are we doing to chose joy?
The right dress isn't going to solve everything. Neither will a dapper pair of cuff links. But, maybe wearing things that make us feel confident, beautiful, and alive can be one small way of pursing a life that is full of bold decisions - big and small.
This is a blog about pursing joy.
It happens to be about clothes too.
Thank you for joining me on the journey.
