Refinery29 Launch Party at Madewell

Last night was the Refinery29 launch party at Madewell in Georgetown. All haters beware – DC is in the middle of a fashion revolution.

It was a great time to check out some of the latest Madewell merch.

This is Brittany. I ran into her last summer and just loved her style.

I love how she combined a sparkly skirt with a denim shirt and a pop of color with her purse. Lovely as always!

I also met Winter, who was wearing an AMAZING Chanel necklace.

Here is a close up:

It’s chunky and bling-y with lots of individual elements that make one BIG fantastic necklace. Love it.

Welcome to DC, Refinery29! We are so glad you are here!

FNO Pics

Pictures from DC’s Fashion’s Night Out

I went to Georgetown last night with two lovely girlfriends to do some celebrating for FNO. Here are some shots of the evening:

Amazing Spike Heel from Cusp.

My wonderful friend, Amy, trying on a fall hat.

Amy standing with a mannequin wearing the same hat.

Pink rose dress!

More pink at Betsey Johnson! The store served Skinny Girl cocktails.

The most bumpin’ party was at Kiehl’s. Who woulda thought?

Great music, vodka cranberry drinks, lots of candy and a dance floor.

Kate Spade gave out huge silk flowers. I’m actually wearing mine today.

I always appreciate Kate Spade’s approach to visual merchandising. This group of prints look so cheery!

Lush had a 70′s disco, complete with friendly representatives from DC Rollergirls. I snapped this picture and activated the secret code to receive a free bottle of bath wash! (Secret code = a sweet girl walking up to me and saying, “You took a picture so you get this bottle.” Such fun!)

BCBG had thick, multiple strap belts that were quite sexy. I snapped this picture and then was firmly told not to take pictures in the store. (Which I may blog about later – most stores are quite open to pics, but there are a few that still get freaked out. My view – we live in a time where most people have a camera on them at all times via their phone, so we must expect that more pictures will be taken anywhere we go. Also, if I’m snapping pictures it means that I will be writing about a store’s products, which can only be benificial to the store. But, I digress…)

We also dropped by the Brightest Young Things party at Dena & Deluca at the end of the night.

So, all of that going about town and guess what? We didn’t buy anything! I remember being blown away last FNO with some of the special prices and merchandise and made purchases at multiple stores. This year we didn’t run into great deals. Did we miss them? Did things change? I totally appreciated the special decorations / snacks and effort stores put into the celebration. But, the merch and prices weren’t any different than if we had gone shopping the night before.

All of that being said, it was a great time! Lots of rain, but it was fun to run around with some friends and go shopping!

Did you attend FNO? Tell me about your experience!

Fashion’s Night Out Gameplan

Fashion’s Night Out is almost upon us! Last year it was fantastic, but this year there seems to be extra energy in the air. This thing is HUGE! With so many options of where to go and what to do I wanted to reveal a little of my FNO gameplan for tomorrow. Here it is:

DC FABB

Fashion Blogger Meetup Event at Violet Boutique

After I attended the DC FABB fashion blogger meet-up at Violet Boutique last night I made a decision to completely reject the statement, “DC has no sense of style.” So many beautiful, interesting, kind women turned out, and I just couldn’t get enough of what everyone was wearing.

And, people were so amazing with the details! Every time I thought I completely grasped an entire outfit I noticed a small choice with an accessory or a shade of lipstick that made me oooh and ahhh. It wasn’t just about the clothes, either. There were so many strong people with such interesting perspectives and backgrounds. Basically, I came away with the notion that this group of bloggers could pretty much run the world.

Can you tell that it was a great event?

Here are some pictures for you to peruse!

That’s Julie on the left and me on the right. Julie is the dynamite owner of Violet Boutique. She helped me pick out the dress that I’m wearing (which came from her boutique, of course!). She has such an eye for color! She encouraged me to try on the dress and I just fell in love. I highly recommend you get yourself over to Violet Boutique and talk with Julie! Trust her instincts – she’s amazing!

This is Jen. She writes the blog Sew Frugal & Fashionable and is just a powerhouse. She has challenged herself to not purchase anything new this year, and comes to events in stunning outfits that she either made, refashioned, or found at Goodwill, consignment, or thrift stores. If you live in DC, MD, or VA you can find her teaching sewing with the Silver Spring Sewing Sisters.

On the left is Liz from the blog So Much to Smile About. She is also one of the co-founders of DC FABB.

This is the lovely Emily from Capital Style. You can follow her blog here.

The amazing Ujji B from StylesByUjjiB.

On the left is fashion designer Tamika from House of KAS.

In the middle is model and stylist Dana who writes the blog The Diary of Franky J.

On the right is Ujji B.

Here is Alina from The Hyperbalist. It’s always a joy to see what Alina is wearing and how she puts outfits together. (You can see another True to Style pic of her from a vintage event here.)

Excuse the blurriness of this pic, but I still had to post it to make sure you got a look at her shoes. Perfect. Just perfect!

This is Lacey, the other co-founder of DC FABB and author of the wonderful blog A Lacey Perspective.

Finally, some product shots from Violet Boutique, because there is always such great merch there!

DC Fashion Events This Weekend

The dog days of summer are upon us. You know what that means? Shopping!

Midcity celebrates its 12th annual sidewalk sale on August 6th and 7th with a Dog Days sale. Participants include Rue 14, Redeem, Junction Vintage, Habitat, Treasury, Lettie Gooch, and Caramel.

If you live in, or are visiting, Virginia this week you are in luck. It’s tax free time! During August 5-7th school supplies (priced at $20 or less) and clothing / footwear (priced at $100 or less) are exempt from the Virginia sales tax. Click here for more info.

Speaking of Virginia, Old Town’s Shoe Hive has shoes, bags, and jewelry on sale through August 30th.

The most exciting fashion event of the weekend is taking place at the MLK Library on Saturday, August 6th. Twenty teens are competing in a Project Runway-inspired fashion design competition called Rip this Runway. The competition is from 11:00 am-5:00 pm with drop in programs at 11:00, 1:00, and 3:00, and an after party at the National Portrait Gallery from 6:00 – 10:00 pm.

Butler & Claypool

Vintage Fashion

This past weekend Readyset DC hosted a Summer Mixer featuring vintage goods by Butler & Claypool.

It was a very steamy day. The perfect day to attend a fashion event wearing a big, floppy hat.

I love this hat because it reminds me so much of the hat Holly Golightly wears in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

I met up with Lisa from Quarter Life Vintage at the event. Guess what? She was wearing a big, floppy hat too!

I had to take one picture of just her shoes. Adorable.

There was great vintage merch:

I especially enjoyed the Butler & Claypool tags. I ended up purchasing this delicate lace brooch (for the fantastic price of $4) and had to take a picture of it with the tag still on.

There were also many fashionable people in attendance. Rachel looked like a vintage bombshell.

This is Alina.

She found a pair of vintage jeans that looked like they were made just for her. She also found the below purple bracelet.

This is Jen.

She was so beautiful in her nautical stripes!

Such a fun afternoon of shopping and meeting new people.

Outside of the Lamont Bishop Gallery - location of the Readyset DC event.

Lisa and I even ended up in a slide show of the event on The Feast because of our big, crazy hats. You can read the article here.
