Elle Music Video

Elle Magazine Creates a Music Video (And It’s Adorbs)

In an interesting “is this for reals” move, Elle Magazine just released a music video entitled “My Heelz.” The video was created in the Elle offices and stars junior editor Julia Vadnal (otherwise known as Julez in the video).

The thing is – it’s actually catchy. And funny. Not to mention it juxtaposes dancing (and some writhing) in the middle of a conference room and between cubicles. The adorable Julez actually has a descent voice and goes from overworked staffer to glampot throughout the course of the song.

Big kudos to Elle magazine for trying a new marketing tactic, not taking themselves too seriously, and putting out something that is silly but oh-so much fun.

Fashion magazine or the new venue for catchy pop music?

Do you think other magazines will start to produce music videos if this goes viral?

The New It Girl

The New “It Girl” is in Her 60′s – and She’s Fabulous

Meryl Streep on the cover of Vogue. Vera Wang posing in her bathing suit for Bazaar. Diane Keaton in an ad campaign for Chico’s. Suddenly women over the age of 60 are appearing in media looking powerful and sexy. Hallelujah. It’s about time!

Vogue, Jan. 2012

The average Vogue cover girl is 30 years old (30.3 to be exact). At 62 Streep is the oldest model to grace the cover during Anna Wintour’s tenure – and possibly in the magazine’s 110-year history.

Vera Wang in Harper's Bazaar

At 63 Vera Wang is rocking a photo shoot for Bazaar. Forget 20-something starlets, Wang is proving that 60 is the new sexy!

Finally, Diane Keaton is looking just radiant in an ad campaign for Chico’s.

Doesn't this picture just make you want to smile?

It’s not just that these women are gorgeous. There is a joy and strength coming through these pictures that is so refreshing.

We still have a way to go when it comes to acceptance in the world of fashion. We need to see women of different ages, races, body types, and abilities more frequently in media as a whole. But, it gives me hope that these women are being acknowledged for who they are, their business savvy, and their dreams. Keep it coming!

What do you think of these cover girls? Are you seeing more examples of women of different ages pop up in media?

Looking Good, Martha!

Martha Stewart Looking Fab

Have you guys seen the latest Martha Stewart Halloween magazine? Hellllllo gorgeous! Martha is looking fabulous!

Check out those over-the-top butterfly (moth?) lashes! Kudos to her makeup artists – they did a fantastic job in creating a cover that is both magical and visually interesting.

I’m a sucker for buying fall / Halloween issues of magazines. I get so excited about the season and suddenly want my apartment covered in fall decorations. It’s time for yellow leaves, pumpkin bread, and long sleeves!

Also, I have become a Pinterest addict. (Pinterest is a site where you can create online vision boards. Right now you need an invite to get on the site, so if you want one leave me your email address in the comments.) The only reason I bring it up is because the site has inspiring ideas for fall crafts. It directed me to this page called 101 Festive Fall Tutorials on the website Everythingetsy.com. The site lists a number of fun concepts from Martha Stewart including directions for large leaf trivets, Halloween lanterns, and an acorn frame. See, it all comes full circle. :)

Are you doing anything to get into the season?

Closet Caucus in Washingtonian

Closet Caucus in the September issue of Washingtonian Magazine!

I am just tickled pink. Washingtonian Magazine has featured Closet Caucus in their September issue! I can’t tell you how surreal it was to pick up a copy of the magazine and read about my business.

For those of you in the DC area, look for the “Cheap Eats” cover. (My fav annual issue!)

My lovely client, Beth, has a full-page photo on page 126. You can read more about Beth at her wonderful blog Beth’s Journey.

Closet Caucus is also listed on page 133 in an article called “A Fresh Eye.”

We also did some filming when Beth had her Wardrobe Edit. I’m not sure when it is going on the Washingtonian site, but I will link to it if / when it goes up.

Thanks for letting me share my excitement!

Bravo Bazaar!

Julianna Margulies Steams Up the January Issue of Bazaar

Hello Gorgeous! I was so happy to open up the January issue of Bazaar magazine and find an amazing photo spread of actress Julianna Margulies. Margulies is currently playing the role of type-A Alicia Florrick in the television show The Good Wife. The photos go against character to showcase a very sensual Margulies.

Photos from the January issue of Bazaar Magazine.

The stylist made some great decisions on this photo shoot. Margulies is sexy, but in actuality isn’t showing that much skin. She’s in provocative poses, but they are suggestive rather than explicit.

Fashion magazines are full of models in their early 20′s (and sometimes younger!). Thus, it’s refreshing to see a 40-something actress who is healthy, beautiful, and vibrant in such flirtatious photographs.

What do you think of this photo shoot? Too much? Did it not go far enough? Do tell!
